Recreational marijuana dispensaries opened for the first time in Boston on March 23, 2019. The limited number of retail locations and high consumer demand resulted in long lines, parking issues, and an overall poor experience for shoppers.

The in-store shopping inconveniences and increase in people staying at home led to a surge in the demand for cannabis delivery services.

Massachusetts recently started approving delivery licenses and there are already three businesses that are operational.

Is Cannabis Delivery Legal in Boston?

Yes, cannabis delivery is legal for Boston residents who are 21 or older with a valid, government-issued ID. Recreational and medical cannabis products can only be delivered to residential addresses in Boston between 8:00am and 9:00pm. 

The Massachusetts Cannabis Control Commission created a municipal zoning tracker to identify the adult-use marijuana bylaws and delivery status for each city and town in Massachusetts. Boston’s recreational marijuana delivery status is listed as permitted

There are a few delivery services offering cannabis delivery in Massachusetts. However, the only delivery service currently delivering recreational marijuana to Boston is Lantern.
